Why long-term?

Long-term enables us to build sustainable and genuine relationships. It enables us to gain deep understanding of our local friend’s culture and worldviews, which in turn helps us present the good news of Jesus in a way that makes sense to them.”

Effective mission takes time.
Deep community transformation requires real commitment.
As an intercultural team member, you’ll dedicate yourself to learning the local language and culture so you can communicate in a way that makes sense in that place.
As you build trust and authentic relationships within the community, opportunities to share God’s love through word and deed will open.
These things take time. You’ll spend your first three years building a strong foundation of language and cultural culture. Early relationships are built with neighbours, colleagues and your local language teacher.
This is often followed by a six-month home assignment in Australia that includes some rest, further training and growing your partnership and support team. From there, you will return to your mission community with a strong foundation, ready for your second term and beyond.

How do I apply?
There are three stages in the Baptist Mission Australia pathway to becoming an intercultural team member. This process takes between 18-36 months.
1. Discernment

2. Application
Once you have discerned your calling with the support of Baptist Mission Australia, the next step is to begin the application process.
3. Formation
Now that you’ve been accepted as a team member, it’s time to prepare for your first term of intercultural service.
