Shirley and Gary

Serving in Malawi

Gary and Shirley are intercultural team members with Baptist Mission Australia in Malawi. They lecture at The Baptist College, Lilongwe, located in Malawi. The College aims to train local men and women called to Christian ministry.

Since 2016, Gary and Shirley have made four short-term mission trips to teach at the College. And in 2021 they moved to Malawi full-time to continue this vital ministry.

Gary is responsible for teaching theological subjects, particularly Old Testament, while Shirley teaches Communication and Academic Writing. They teach two to three subjects each semester. Gary also supports a number of online students. They also regularly visit local Baptist congregations to support and mentor former and current students.

They are excited about raising up future leaders to teach both at the College and in churches. One of the ways they will be doing this is by partnering with Australian Baptists and the Baptist Convention of Malawi to provide student scholarships.

In partnership with Gary and Shirley, Australian Baptists are sowing into the future of development of local faith leaders and growing faith communities. Your prayers and financial support is sowing into the Kingdom of Heaven through those like Gary and Shirley who have responded, “Here I am Lord send me”.

“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love on another.”
