Rachel

Serving in Cambodia

Rachel is a Speech Pathologist who specialises in working with children with intellectual disabilities, and minimal spoken communication.

From October 2018 to July 2024, Rachel and her family lived and worked among the Khmer people in Siem Reap. While in Cambodia, Rachel recognised a need for children with disabilities, and their families, to access long term input for communication, sensory and behaviour difficulties.

In 2023, Pheasa Duongchet (Language of the Heart) opened. At Pheasa Duongchet, Rachel and the Khmer staff work alongside families to help them interact with their children in ways that encourage their development, communication and potential for learning. They also support caregivers by listening to and understanding their challenges and promoting community through connection with other caregivers. Although Rachel is now based in Australia, she continues to manage the project and visit Cambodia to support staff and establish the project for the long term.

Rachel is passionate about sharing Jesus with the Khmer people who are part of the Pheasa Duongchet Community. She hopes that as she and the staff connect with families, they will come to know their worth and that they are loved by Jesus.

“We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds.”
